The operators
of the Cork to Swansea ferry, Fastnet Line, is planning to run the
popular ferry service all year round having already carried twice the
number of passengers it orignally forecasted since opening in March 2010.
The Ireland to
Wales ferry service recorded massive sales during April due to the
air travel disruption caused by the volcanic ash cloud.
The Fastnet
Line company is a co-operative of investors from Ireland and the UK
who raised over ten million pounds to purchase a ferry and reinstate
the Cork to Swansea crossing. The company now employs around 100
staff and early reports show tourism has already benefitted in both
Cork and Swansea.
The company
expects most Summer sailings will be tourists with the bulk of Winter
income coming from carrying freight.
